APG holds twelfth session of its inquiry into public health approaches to tackling gambling-related harms

On Tuesday (12 December), the Northern Ireland All Party Group (APG) on Reducing Harm Related to Gambling met for the twelfth and penultimate session of its inquiry into public health approaches to tackling gambling-related harms. Members heard from Andrew Taylor, Gambling Policy Lead at the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).

Andrew highlighted the need to constantly revisit the question of online environments and targeted advertising, saying that the ASA carry out "all manner" of tech-assisted projects to monitor how technology is being used to target under 18s in particular.

His presentation also highlighted that there is a lack of evidence that points to gambling advertising as “problematic”, which demonstrates the need for more research in this area.

The next and final meeting will be held in January 2024. The date and time are yet to be confirmed.
